The 4th Symposium on Motor Control in Biomechanics, sponsored in part by the De Luca Foundation, was held on Tuesday July 5th 2016 on the workshop day of the Meeting of the International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology (ISEK) in Chicago (USA).
The Initiative, organized by prof. Carlo J. De Luca and the ISB Working Group in Motor Control, featured internationally renowned speakers in the field of Motor Control and Biomechanics.
Dr. Paola Contessa opened the session by presenting the importance of bridging the fields of Motor Control and Biomechanics and introducing four outstanding speakers.
The talks included a lecture from Dr. Joshua Kline (Delsys Inc., USA) on the notion of common input and the empirically unsupported practice for its estimation, and a lecture from Prof. Andrea D’Avella (Universita’ di Messina and Santa Lucia Foundation, Italy) on “Muscle synergies: biomechanical epiphenomenon or neural control strategy?”. Prof. Paul Hodges (University of Queensland, Australia) provided insights into muscle coordination and adaptations to pain. Prof. Patrick Crago (Case Western Reserve University, USA) presented research on the use of functional electrical stimulation to augment voluntary reach and grasp in stroke survivors.
