• Can I submit a project that has already been published?

  Yes, previously published work can be submitted. Previous dissemination of the work in the form of a peer-reviewed publication is considered favorably as evidence of usefulness and veracity.

• Can I submit a project that has been published five or more years ago?

  Yes, as long as the work satisfies the definitions of Innovation as reported in the Instructions of the entry form.

• Can I submit an entry that includes more than one published paper?

  The reference to one or more previously published papers describing the work can be included as evidence of dissemination (omitting the authors’ name). Note that incremental increases of previous work that does not enable novel applications or insight will not be considered as innovative.

• Are animal studies allowed?

  Yes, animal studies are allowed as long as they comply with the requirements specified in the entry form.

• Can I submit a project that does not use EMG?

  No, Electromyography must be a key aspect of the project. The purpose of the Delsys Prize is to promote Innovation in the field of Electromyography.

• Can I submit a paper as supporting material?

  No, publications can be included in the entry form as references. They cannot be submitted as an attachment.

• Should the project submitted be conducted using a Delsys System?

  Electromyography should be a key element of the research submitted. However, there is no restriction regarding the EMG systems or sensors used to collect EMG signals.

• Can proposed but not yet performed studies be submitted?

  No, the work submitted should present an advancement in understanding the information content of the EMG signal, a new devices or techniques/technology that use EMG signals, or a novel application of EMG signals or EMG technology. Evidence of veracity and usefulness is a key factor that can be established by previous dissemination. If the study has been previously published or presented at a scientific conference, the history of dissemination (peer-reviewed publications or abstracts NOT including the name of the authors) should be provided. If the study has not been previously published, evidence of usefulness, as might be the case for a device, should be provided.

• Do I need to be a student in order to apply?

  No, any individual 18 years of age or older can apply to the Delsys Prize. Excluded from participation are only employees, consultants, and members of Delsys Incorporated, Delsys Europe Ltd, ADInstruments, De Luca Foundation and their immediate relatives, and members of the Review Board.

• Do I need to have an academic position in order to apply?

  No, any individual 18 years of age or older can apply to the Delsys Prize. Excluded from participation are employees, consultants, and members of Delsys Incorporated, Delsys Europe Ltd, ADInstruments, De Luca Foundation and their immediate relatives, and members of the Review Board.

• Can I submit an entry as a research team rather than a single individual?

  No, only one applicant can submit a project for consideration.

• Submission Process

• Can an applicant submit more than one entry?

  Yes, there is no limit to the number of entries that an individual can submit.

• Can I submit an entry that was submitted in previous editions of the Delsys prize but was not awarded?

  Yes, applicants are encouraged to re-submit an entry.

• When is the submission deadline?

  Entries must be received by midnight (11:59 pm EDT; GMT -4) September 30th of each year Entries received after this deadline will not be considered.

• My affiliation recently changed. In the submission page, should I indicate my current affiliation or the one related to the submitted project?

  Indicate your current affiliation and contact information on the submission page.

• Review Process

• Who will review my application?

  The winner will be selected by a Review Board of five experts in the field of Electromyography, at least three of whom are not affiliated with De Luca Foundation. The Review Board will be announced on the De Luca Foundation website at www.delucafoundation.org/delsys-prize/rbm before the submission deadline. For additional information refer to the Guidelines.

• Is the review process anonymous?

  Yes, the review process is anonymous. As indicated in the instructions, please do not report your name in any of the pages of the entry form or references provided.

• How will my application be reviewed?

  For details on the review process, refer to the Guidelines and to the Instructions on the entry form.

• Award

• Can a team be awarded the Delsys Prize?

  No, only the applicant will be awarded the Delsys Prize.

• When will the Delsys prize winner be announced?

  The Winning entry will be announced and posted on the De Luca Foundation website at www.delucafoundation.org/delsys-prize at the beginning of November. The exact date will be announced on the De Luca Foundation website at www.delucafoundation.org/delsys-prize before the submission deadline.
